Fairly makes it simple and free to put yourself in front of homeowners in your area who are looking for a valued caretaker. To make yourself stand out, your profile provides you an opportunity to showcase your experience, skills, and personality. Setting up your Fairly profile is the first step towards a more rewarding and independent career in vacation rental care.

Creating your profile

Homeowners are looking for caretakers they can trust and develop personal relationships with, so the more they can learn about you in your bio, the better. To create or edit your profile, click on your profile photo/icon → My caretaker profile.

Here are the different aspects of your profile, and recommendations we have to get you started:

  • Photo: Select a photo of your face with good lighting and a plain background. A photo is worth a thousand words, so try to find a photo that showcases your personality and professionalism.

  • Biography: Write a description of yourself, your cleaning experience, and what value you can bring to homeowners. Fairly caretakers play an instrumental role in managing their owners’ homes, so including themes of reliability, trustworthiness, and dedication can help you distinguish yourself.

  • Service area: Select an address you are based out of (this can be your home, or a neighborhood landmark) and the distance you are willing to travel from this address. Keep in mind that if this range is too small you might miss out on potential opportunities. Your range, not address, will be shared with local homeowners.

  • Portfolio: Showcase homes you care for, even if they weren’t with Fairly, to display your expertise.

  • Add tax and payment info: Fairly will automatically deposit cleaning fees and 5% revenue share.

Connecting with Homeowners

If a homeowner likes your profile, they can reach out to you on the Fairly platform. This is an opportunity for you to get to know each other and make sure your goals and expectations align. Here are the main steps to go from messaging a homeowner to becoming their caretaker:

Get to know them

Messaging is an opportunity to make a good first impression and develop a personal connection with the homeowner. Remember, this process is a two-way match; make sure that your homeowner is someone you are excited about working with in the future.

You can see local homes in need of caretakers on the Portfolio tab. When you click on a home you can view more information about it. Select Propose a cleaning fee to send the homeowner a proposal.

Do a home tour

Once a homeowner reaches out to you, you will be able to see details about their home such as its bedrooms, bathrooms, address, and photos. You may choose to do a home tour, in which case you should coordinate with the homeowner to schedule it. You know best what information you need to give a home a fair cleaning fee proposal, so make sure you ask the homeowner any questions you may have.

Send a proposal

Once you understand the home and homeowners’ expectations, you can propose a cleaning fee (homeowners can also request you propose a cleaning fee). After each turnover clean you will receive this fee, on top of 5% of the home’s rental income.

Homeowner accepts (or declines)

If a homeowner accepts your proposal, you are their new caretaker. They can choose a day for you to start, and you can discuss any details that have not yet been worked out. If a homeowner declines your cleaning fee, this does not mean you have lost them as a client. If you and your homeowner can renegotiate and find a cleaning fee both parties agree on, you can submit a new cleaning proposal. Once the homeowner selects you, they will have to choose a starting day for you. You will be able to view their home’s reservations, messages, and listing once they select you, but you will only be able to start messaging guests, editing listings, and cleaning on the start date.
