Charging Airbnb guests a one-time fee

How to request a one-time fee from guests who booked through Airbnb.

In some situations, you may want to charge a guest an additional, one-time fee after their reservation is confirmed. This feature is only available for Airbnb reservations. Fairly can help process these charges directly through Airbnb so they are secure and documented.

How it works

Before initiating the fee, talk to the guest and confirm they agree to pay the additional fee. Here’s an example of what these messages might say:

  • Confirm request: “For the additional service requested, we charge a fee of $X. If you’re okay with this, I can go ahead and request that additional payment through Airbnb.”

  • Let them know what to expect from Airbnb: “Please expect a payment request for $X from Airbnb. You will have 72 hours to agree to the additional payment amount. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!”

  1. Once the guest has agreed to pay, contact Fairly Support to assist with the request: Email [email protected] with:

    1. The Airbnb confirmation code for the reservation (you can find this at the bottom of the reservation screen or messaging screen)

    1. The amount you want to charge the guest

    2. A short description of what it's for (e.g., "Extra guest - $50")

    3. Confirmation that the guest has already agreed to the charge

  2. Fairly submits the request to Airbnb: Our team will send the charge request to the guest through Airbnb’s platform.

  3. Guest approval window: The guest has 72 hours to accept the charge from Airbnb.

  4. Confirmation: We’ll follow up with you once the guest has accepted.

  5. Payout: The fee will be paid out after the guest checks out, and will be separate than your rent payout.

    1. The payment will appear as a separate “Damages reimbursement” payout — note that this label is used for all one-time fee charges, not only damage-related ones.

Note: We can submit a request to the guest up to 45 days after check-out.

Examples of when to use this

  • Guest is having an approved event at your home and has agreed to an event fee.

  • Guest is bringing approved additional pets for an extra fee.

  • Guest has agreed to pay for damages at the home they caused.

When not to use this

  • Guest wants to change their reservation dates or add pets. In this case, refer to these instructions: Change requests from guests

  • Guest caused damage in the home AND does not want to pay. In this case, refer to these instructions: Damage Protection Insurance

  • For Vrbo and Fairly Direct reservations we are unable to process additional guest charges that are not related to dates, pets, or guest occupancy. You can work with the guest off platform to collect additional fees.
